First day of school…

So today was the first day of kindergarten for my little dude and it couldn’t have gone better! He has been really excited all summer to be going and today was no exception! He must have asked me 12 times this morning when he was going. We took him in, the teacher showed him around and they got into a little group on the floor ready to start learning. A few minutes went by and he turns to us and says, “why are you still here?”…LOL! Well I guess that was our cue and he was going to be more than OK.

Here are a few images from his big day!

Fireworks, Whoop up days and the end of Summer…

I’m going to admit something…I’ve lived in Lethbridge for about 8 years now and this year is the very first year that I have attended Whoop up days. I know, I know…terrible right. Events like this just aren’t really my ‘thing’ so I’ve pretty much avoided it every year. So now that I have a child I’ve been feeling like maybe we should be taking him to things like this, even though it’s about the last place I’d want to be…but it’s not about me right…

So off my little family went to good ol’ Whoop up days! My son had never been on any rides before so he was pretty excited to give them a whirl! He got to go on three rides, not very many right…well I wasn’t really willing to spend a small fortune so he could ride them all so he got his taste, had a blast and it was fun to watch him experience them. The $$$ really adds up when him and my husband needed to go on the rides together but thankfully a couple of the ride operators let my husband go on for free with him. My son is big for his age, he’s 5 years old and is probably as tall as a 7 year old, so all of the rides he should be able to go on by himself he’s too tall for…so that was a bit disappointing for him so hopefully next year he’ll be able to go on a few more and be able to go by himself.

We visited the shark exhibit. My son was pretty awed by it. It was a little short but fun to watch.

And of course we ate…my husband ate a foot long corn dog, we bought yummy fudge and my son got his caramel apple he begged for….and Elephant ears…oh how tasty you are!

And to finish off our fun filled family day we let our son stay up way past his bedtime so he could watch the fireworks. He was super excited and the fireworks did not disappoint! I snapped a few photos of the fireworks…enjoy!

My season is starting to wind down…I’m pretty sad about that. I do love Fall though…it’s my favorite season! A little hint…check back next week, perhaps around Wednesday, I may or may not have a little Fall special that I’m cooking up. So if you are looking for a Fall session this may just be for you! I also have some fun sessions coming up so make sure you check back for peeks of those as well!

Caleb | Newborn

This sweet babe was exactly 2 weeks old when I photographed him. He is such a little doll! I know I mentioned it before but I love all of his hair! And he has the cutest little cry I think I’ve ever heard. He did pretty well during our session and ate more than his momma + daddy had ever seen him eat!

I think I’ve decided that my favorite images are the ones that are more organic, less pose-y. The ones of him on the bed I just love! There is something natural and uncontrived about them…

Almost time for kindergarten…

My son is just 9 short days away from starting kindergarten. I still can’t believe it. How did the time go by so fast!? I’m not too sure I’m prepared yet but I guess I’ll have to deal with it! He is so excited to be going and I think he’ll do just fine, I just can’t believe it’s time already! Truth be told though I do barely remember him as a baby, it really does seem like a long time ago but at the same time it seems like yesterday…weird I know. A little part of me is looking forward to having a little time in the afternoon to get more work done and actually be alone. My alone time is pretty scarce so I think this will be a welcomed change for me. But it really is hard to let go…even just for a few hours in the afternoon. I worry about his safety, about how he will get along with his classmates, if he’ll behave properly, if he’ll keep his clothes on when he goes to the bathroom (LOL!)…all those natural motherly concerns. I know it’s a bit silly but it’s hard to let go, if even just a tiny bit, of my ‘baby’.

I can’t believe how grown up he looks in these photos! It’s usually a bit of a struggle to do photos with him, he’s so not into it at all, but he obliged for oh maybe 15 minutes and then he had had about enough.

I love you so much little dude! I hope you have so much fun at kindergarten, I know you’ll do amazing! -Love mom
